YOU NEED TO TAKE THE DELE

The DELEs (Diplomas de Español como Lengua Extranjera), issued by the Ministry of Education of Spain, offer an official accreditation on the degree of mastery of the Spanish language for citizens of countries where Spanish is not the official language. They test your ability to read, write, speak and understand Spanish.

• Certificado Inicial (intermediatemid/threshold level)
• Diploma Básico (highintermediate level)
• Diploma Superior (superior level)

The Certificado Inicial accredits the sufficient knowledge of the language to be able to cope with a range of situations which require an elementary intermediate use of the language.

The Diploma Básico accredits a sufficient knowledge of the language that allows communication in customary situations of everyday life where specialized use is not required.

The Diploma Superior accredits the necessary knowledge of the language as to allow communication in situations which require an advanced use of Spanish and knowledge of its cultural background.

The exam for obtaining the DELEs (Inicial, Básico y Superior) consists of five tests: reading comprehension, written expression, listening comprehension, grammarvocabulary, and oral expression. The grade "no apto"(unsatisfactory) in one of the sections will imply the candidate's failure in the entire exam and all parts should be retaken in the future.

The Diplomas are recognized not only by official institutions of Spanish speaking countries, but also, increasingly by corporations, universities and other educational institutions all over the world.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Proof of citizenship of a country where Spanish is not the official language.
• Age 16 or older for the Diploma Superior. There is no minimum age

required for the Diplomas Básico and Inicial.

Examinations from previous years (a complete test including two booklets, an audio cassette recording of the listening comprehension questions, and an answer key) can be purchased through the DELE services.
