The region was granted pre-autonomy status on November 15th 1978 and, following its ratification by the Cortes, its Autonomy Statute came into force on August 16th, 1982.

Castile-La Mancha was set up as an Autonomous Community under Organic Law 9/1982, August 10th (B.O.E. 16-8-82).
