On June 13th, 1978, the Castilian-Leonese people obtained preautonomy, and the General Council of Castile-Leon was set up.

The Autonomy Statute, approved by the Cortes, came into force on March 2nd 1983.

The Community of Castile and Leon was set up as an Autonomous Community under Organic Law 4/1983, February 25th (BOE 2-3-83).
