To enter Spain it is necessary to show a valid passport or another document adhering to international conventions and reciprocity criteria that verifies the identity of the traveler. For citizens of Andorra, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Switzerland and of those countries belonging to the European Union, the presentation of a national identification document is sufficient.
For nationals of certain countries, and depending on the duration of the visit, a visa is required. In case of doubt, consultation at the Embassy of Spain in Ottawa or at Spanish General Consulates in Toronto and Montreal is advisable.
Canadian citizens do not need any visa on their passports if the duration of the visit is not longer than three months. Canadian students and workers going to Spain should contact either the Consular Section of the Embassy of Spain or the Spanish General Consulates in Toronto and Montreal before leaving Canada in order to get the appropriate visa.
For all other foreign residents in Canadian territory, landed immigrants, refugees, etc. the requirements will depend on their nationality and situation.
If you are neither Canadian citizen nor lawfully permanent resident in Canada, you should apply for Spanish visas, if required, in your country before leaving it and travelling to Spain.
Application forms and Visas can be obtained from the following offices in Canada:
1. EMBASSY OF SPAIN 350 Sparks Street, suite 802 Ottawa, Ont. K1R 7S8 (For Canadian citizens residing in the National Capital Region) 2. CONSULATE GENERAL OF SPAIN IN TORONTO 1200 Bay St. , suite 400 Toronto, Ont. M5R 2A5 (For Canadian citizens residing in Northwest Territories, Yukon, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario) 3. CONSULATE GENERAL OF SPAIN IN MONTREAL 1, Place Westmount #1456 Montreal, QC. H3Z 2P9 (For Canadian citizens residing in Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia)
